What is Dignity Action Day?
Dignity Action Day gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people's rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care.
Dame Joan Bakewell, Dignity in Care Ambassador said: "Dignity Action Day highlights a more respectful way of behaving towards vulnerable people. The very old and the very young clearly need our respect, but it wouldn't do any harm to spread the dignity message across the population then we can all benefit."
By supporting Dignity Action Day we will: Raise awareness of the importance of Dignity in Care Provide someone with an extra special day Demonstrate that everybody in the community has a role to play in upholding Dignity in Care Remind the public that staff have a right to be treated with dignity and respect too Provide a great community networking opportunity.
We celebrated Dignity day by all staff voting for a client in which we could make it a special day for them. The staff voted for Mr W. We arranged a pamper session for him, manicure, pedicure and hair cut and he love it! He said he felt 30 years younger. We also arrange an afternoon tea, filled with cakes and biscuits he likes and had a good chat about his childhood.
Mr W was born in Malham, North Yorkshire, It’s a pretty place, surrounded by limestone dry-stone walls, & with a stream running right through the middle of the village. When he was a toddler he moved to the market town of Settle/ Stackhouse. His family were farmers, he grew up to be a farmer and has now passed the farm down to the next generation of farmers. Mr W raised 3 children who all grew up to be Effective contributors to the local community.

Our Cath and a client went outside in the garden and simply counted the birds they seen the garden and marked them down.
These are some of the birds Cath and our Client found together.
A small, thick beaked bird. Males are red-brown above, pale grey beneath, with a grey cap and black bib. The female and young are paler and sandy brown. buffy grey underneath and with a pale stripe behind the eye.
Little bundles of nervous energy, their blue and yellow colouring makes blue tits easily recognisable from other birds of a similar size.
The chaffinch is the UK's second commonest breeding bird, and is the most colourful of any of our finches. Its patterned plumage helps it to blend in when feeding on the ground and it becomes most obvious when it flies, revealing a flash of white on the wings and white outer tail feathers.
The bright red breast and throat make it perhaps the most distinctive bird in the UK. Despite their cute appearance, robins are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders.
I got to see all the birds and counted them for the RSPB.
It was cold but Cath made sure I wore lots of layers to keep me warm.
I had a pack and marked what I seen with Caths help.
We are going to do it next year.
